How to Fix Insecure Startup Item disabled message

If you or a student is still receiving this message when you login, here is how to fix it:

1)  Hit OK however many times it takes for the messages to go away (usually 1-3 times).

2)  From Finder’s “Go” menu, select “Go to Folder…”  (To get to Finder, just click in the open space on your Desktop background)



3)  Type in “/Library/StartupItems” and hit “Go”



4)  From Finder’s “File” menu, select “Get Info”



5)  Click the tiny little padlock in the lower-right corner.



6)  Plug-in your staffadmin credentials (for students) or your personal admin credentials (for you) and hit OK.



7)  Make sure the system has Read & Write privileges, wheel has Read only and everyone has Read only, then click the gear with an arrow next to it and select “Apply to enclosed items…”



8)  Click OK.



9)  Log out and then back in.  The error message will not show up when you log in.
