Including iMovie video in a Google Slides presentation without resorting to Youtube.

My students were working on Google Slides presentations and wanted to insert some video they had recorded.  Upon checking they found Google slides only wanted YouTube video links.   Possible, if they already had a YouTube channel to upload the video to, but not what they wanted to do.

I experimented and found a way to include the video without using YouTube.

Here's my work around to include the video without using YouTube

In iMovie:
Create the movie project
File: Finalize
Share: Export
This converts the file to an m4v format.

In Google Drive
If the file isn't already there, upload it to drive.
Select the file, then select Share.
In the sharing popup window, hit the 'get shareable link': button.
Copy the URL that appears and hit done.

In Google slides.
Enter the text which will link to the video.
Select the text and hit the button to form a link
Paste in the copied URL
Save or upload the Google Slides presentation to Google Drive.

In Google Drive
Share the presentation with the desired audience.

When presenting the show, hit the link.  A new tab or window will appear, and load the video to be played.  The video itself is only available to persons in the bedford.k12.ia.us domain, unless it is specifically shared to someone outside.
