Uploading a video to Youtube

1)  Create or find a movie to upload to Youtube.  Click here to verify that it is in a format Youtube accepts.     (Getting video from your camera into your computer so it can be uploaded will be another topic)

2)  Login to your Gmail account.

3)  Go to youtube.com and click “Upload”

4)  Drag your movie file on top of the big arrow below.

5)  It will take you to a screen like the one below and show you the upload progress.

6)  While the movie is uploading, or after, you can adjust items 1-6: title, description, tags, video thumbnail, category, and privacy settings.  For a description of tags, video thumbnails, or privacy settings, click the little question mark next to each.

You can see item 7 below will take you to your video, or you can copy that link for sharing with others.  Item 8 will take you to your Video Manager, which is a list of all of your Youtube videos.

7)  When you are on your video page (following link 7 in the previous step), notice and click the Share tab pointed out below.

8)  When you click the Share tab, a new set of tabs appear with the “Share this video” tab as default.  The URL of your video is provided, and if you want to share your video and have it start at a certain moment in your video, click the check box and change the “Start at:” timer to the desired time in your video.  This will change your URL slightly.

9)  From the embed tab, you will see a blurb of HTML code.  This code will allow you to embed your video in a webpage or blog.  Copy this code and paste it in the HTML part of your webpage editor and it will now be playable from your webpage.

That should get you up and running with your first Youtube video upload!
